FIELD DAY
-FIELD DAY- Exists as a study of the relationships between oneself and those relationships realized in childhood; drawn from feelings of otherness within identity, culture, and home. FIELD DAY looks to part of my culture being 1/2 Central Asian as a guide for silhouettes; creating the focus on necessity within shape and material
This collection is a life story, showing the story of the dynamic active childhood to layers of armor as a result of protection from the internal struggle.
Inspired after the ancient Afghan hobby of dueling with kites. Boys and men compete in attempting to cut each other's kites down by the string; analogous to war; The kites with their glass strings symbolize the dichotomy between beauty and violence. This collection is reflective of an internal battle from one's own desire to feel their stolen childhood and from one's internal protection from the world one had to survive in. As a result, these garments represent the freedom through movement and intentionally placed openings/trims.
